Description

Epithalon, also known as Epitalon or AEDG, is a synthetic research tetrapeptide composed of four amino acids: alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and glycine. Its sequence is written as Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. This substance has been of interest in cell biology research for years, particularly in the context of telomerase activity, telomere length, regulation of gene expression, pineal gland function, oxidative stress and processes associated with cellular aging.

In the scientific literature, Epithalon is primarily studied as a short regulatory peptide that may affect selected cellular and molecular mechanisms. Due to its simple structure and the biological profile described in studies, it is used as a reference substance in research models involving, among other areas, somatic cells, the neuroendocrine system, oxidative stress and repair processes at the cellular level.

Epithalon 10 mg / 50mg is offered as a lyophilized powder intended for the preparation of a working solution under laboratory conditions. The product is intended for laboratory and analytical applications and is for research use only. It is not intended for use in humans or animals.

Epithalon — scientific literature and research areas

Telomerase and telomeres

Epithalon has been studied in the context of telomerase activity, hTERT expression and mechanisms associated with telomere length. This line of research primarily concerns cellular aging processes, chromosome stability and potential mechanisms regulating the cell life cycle.

Study: Khavinson et al., 2003.

Gene expression

The AEDG peptide, or Epithalon, has also been examined in studies on the regulation of selected genes’ expression and protein synthesis. Particular attention has been paid to its potential effects on markers associated with cellular differentiation and possible epigenetic mechanisms, including interactions between short peptides and chromatin structures.

Study: Khavinson et al., 2020.

Pineal gland and circadian rhythm

Epithalon has been studied in the context of pineal gland function, circadian rhythm and neuroendocrine processes associated with aging. It also appears in the literature in studies concerning melatonin, cortisol and daily hormonal regulation.

Studies: Goncharova et al., 2001, Korkushko et al., 2007.

Oxidative stress

Epithalon has been examined in the context of oxidative stress, antioxidant activity and effects on reactive oxygen species — ROS. This research area includes laboratory models relating to the protection of cells against oxidative damage, mitochondrial function and the stability of cellular structures.

Studies: Kozina et al., 2007, Yue et al., 2022.

Models of biological aging

Epithalon has been studied in models relating to the biology of aging, chromosomal changes, the lifespan of model organisms and the effects of environmental conditions, such as light cycles, on biological processes. These studies were experimental and primarily involved cellular and animal models.

Studies: Anisimov et al., 2003, Vinogradova et al., 2007.
