Melanotan-2 10mg

Melanotan II – synthetic research peptide (reference standard)

Purchases are available only in the Polish version of the store and in PLN.

Description

Melanotan II, also known as Melanotan-2, MT-II or MT2, is a synthetic cyclic peptide composed of seven amino acids.

Its sequence is written as:

Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-NH2

Melanotan II was developed as a synthetic analogue of α-MSH (α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone) and is the subject of research into the melanocortin system and melanocortin receptor activity.

Experimental models are used to analyse, among other things, its receptor-related properties, affinity for selected receptors, structure–activity relationships (SAR) and signalling pathways associated with melanocortin receptor activation.

Melanotan II may also be used as research material in work involving the identification, characterisation and analysis of synthetic peptides.

The product is supplied as a lyophilised powder, in a quantity of 10 mg, with a stated purity of >99% HPLC.

Melanotan II 10 mg is intended exclusively for laboratory, analytical and scientific research applications – Research Use Only (RUO).

The product is not intended for use in humans or animals.

Melanotan II in Laboratory Research

Melanotan II is used as a subject of research into the melanocortin system, receptor activity and the relationships between the structure of synthetic α-MSH analogues and their properties in specific experimental models.

Depending on the objective of the research project, analyses may include, among other things:

  • characterisation of ligand–receptor interactions,
  • studies of melanocortin receptors,
  • analysis of receptor affinity,
  • assessment of selectivity for specific receptors,
  • analysis of signalling pathways,
  • studies of structure–activity relationships (SAR),
  • physicochemical characterisation of the peptide,
  • substance identification,
  • development and validation of analytical methods.

The scope of a specific experiment depends on the model used, the methodology and the objective of the research being conducted.

Melanotan II and the Melanocortin System

The melanocortin system comprises a group of membrane receptors belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family.

The scientific literature identifies five main melanocortin receptors:

MC1R, MC2R, MC3R, MC4R and MC5R.

Natural ligands of this system include peptides derived from proopiomelanocortin (POMC), including α-MSH.

As a synthetic analogue of α-MSH, Melanotan II is used in research that enables analysis of the relationships between:

ligand structure → receptor affinity → receptor activity → intracellular signalling.

This information relates to the substance Melanotan II and specific experimental models. It does not constitute claims regarding the activity, efficacy or properties of the commercial product offered.

Identification and Analysis of Melanotan II

Synthetic peptides may undergo analyses to confirm their identity and assess analytical parameters.

For Melanotan II, applicable methods include:

HPLC – high-performance liquid chromatography, used to analyse a sample’s chromatographic profile and assess its purity.

LC-MS – liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, used to identify the compound and analyse its mass-related parameters.

Mass spectrometry – may be used as part of studies aimed at confirming the identity and characterising synthetic peptides.

The parameters of a specific product should be assessed on the basis of analytical documentation for the relevant batch.
